CHICAGO – Chicago State men's track & field produced 12 top-10 finishes during the ISU Redbird Invitational on April 24 in Normal, Ill. The Cougars battled Southern Illinois, Missouri State, Eastern Illinois, Illinois Wesleyan and the host Redbirds in the meet.
Sophomore Jonathon Majors (Richton Park, Ill./Thornwood) (Richton Park, Ill.) and freshman Matthew Jordan (Mogadore, OH/Field) (Mogardore, Ohio) each recorded a pair of top-10 showings to pace CSU in the running events.
Majors finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.95 to go along with his seventh-place showing in the 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line at a time of 22.47. Jordan earned a seventh-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:18.41 and finished ninth in the 800-meter run at a time of 2:07.71.
Junior Jerrel Thornton (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) (Chicago, Ill.) placed eighth and sophomore Uri Kuyoro (Harvey, Ill.) finished eighth and ninth in the 200m race after recording times of 22.56 and 22.62, respectively.
Kuyoro later finished third in the 400-meter dash after crossing the finish line at a time of 49.42, while senior Josh Campbell (Cartersville, Ga.) placed sixth in the event with a time of 50.35 and senior Arturs Bareikis (Oak Forest, IL/Robert Morris (Ill.) University) (Oak Forest, Ill.) posted a sixth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:17.31.
For the second week in a row, three CSU athletes recorded a multiple top-10 placings in the javelin throw that was led by a sixth-place finish by junior Earnest Jones (Chicago, IL/Proviso West) (Chicago, Ill.), who threw for a mark of 120-04. Junior Daniel Fleming (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) placed eighth with a throw of 123-09 and junior Xavier Williams (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) (Chicago, Ill.) finished 10th as he recorded a toss of 109-01.
The Cougars travel to Terre Haute, Ind., this weekend to participate in the annual Indiana State Pacesetter Invitational on Saturday.
