Women Track & Field Earns Six Top-10 Finishes and Four PR Marks at Iowa Invitational

Essence Wisom posted a personal-best mark of 35-10 in the shot put at the Iowa Invitational to finish eighth

CHICAGO â€“ Chicago State women's track & field used several strong performances to earn six top-10 finishes and set four personal records on April 17 at the Iowa Invitational, held at the Francis X. Crestmeyer Track in Iowa City, Iowa.

Other teams competing in the meet with the Cougars and the host Hawkeyes were Drake, Marquette, Northern Iowa and Western Illinois.

Tosin Idowu (McDonough, Ga.) and Amber White (Locust Grove, GA/Ola) (Locust Grove, Ga.) continued their stellar freshman campaigns on the outdoor season as they each recorded a PR mark and a top-10 finish in sprinting events for CSU.

Idowu placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.99 to set a new personal-best mark after concluding the prelims with a time of 13.06, while White set a new PR time in the 200-meter dash at 27.07 to finish in seventh place.

In the field events, Essence Wisdom (Joliet, IL/Joliet West) (Joliet, Ill.) recorded a new personal record in the shot put as she made a throw of 35-10 en route to placing eighth, bettering her previous PR mark that was set earlier in the outdoor season by over three feet. Sophomore Lanesha Sutton (Lansing, IL/Thornwood) (Lansing, Ill.) produced a personal-best throw of 64-03 to finish fifth in the javelin throw.

The Cougars are back in action this Saturday as they travel to downstate Normal to compete in the Redbird Spring Invitational, hosted by Illinois State.
