Men’s Track & Field Finishes 11th at 2010 Chicagoland Championships

Jonathon Majors placed second in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the high jump at the Chicagoland Championships

CHICAGO – The Chicago State men's track & field team posted four top-10 finishes en route to placing 11th at the 2010 Chicagoland Championships on April 10, held at the University of Chicago's Ted Haydon Track.

 

Sophomore Jonathon Majors (Richton Park, Ill./Thornwood) (Richton Park, Ill.) earned a pair of top-five showings for the meet to lead the Cougars. Majors placed second in the 100-meter dash after recording a 10.92 in the prelims and crossed the finish line at 10.99 in the finals in addition to capturing fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 44-11.00.

 

Junior Jerrel Thornton (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) (Chicago, Ill.) placed seventh in the 100m after posting a time of 11.05 in the prelims then captured seventh in the finals. Thornton also recorded a PR time of 22.55 in the 200-meter dash, while sophomore Uri Kuyoro (Harvey, Ill.) posted a personal-best time of 22.61 in the event.

 

In the 4x400-meter relay, Majors, Kuyoro, junior Daniel Fleming (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) and senior Josh Campbell (Cartersville, Ga.) teamed up to finish fourth with a time of 3:23.55 which marks the fastest time in the event for the Cougars this season.

 

Freshman Matthew Jordan (Mogadore, OH/Field) (Mogadore, Ohio) set personal-best time in the 800-meter run at 2:04.10 and senior Arturs Bareikis (Oak Forest, IL/Robert Morris (Ill.) University) (Oak Forest, Ill.) concluded the 1,500-meter run with a PR time of 4:16.59.

 

Fleming also set a personal-best mark in the high jump portion of the Decathlon as he won the event with a leap of 6-05.00.

 

The Cougars travel to Iowa City, Iowa to compete in the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational this Saturday.
