Men’s Track & Field Garners Nine Top-10 Finishes at EIU Big Blue Classic

Daniel Fleming recorded a third-place finish in the long jump at the EIU Big Blue Classic

CHICAGO – The Chicago State men's track & field managed to garner nine top-10 finishes as it competed at the annual EIU Big Blue Classic on April 3 at O'Brien Field in downstate Charleston, Ill.

 

Junior Daniel Fleming (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) posted the highest individual finish for CSU when he captured third place in the long jump with a mark of 22-11.75, which currently ranks him second in the Great West Conference in the event.

 

Fleming later teamed with sophomore Jonathan Majors (Richton Park, Ill.), junior Jerrel Thornton (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Uri Kuyoro (Harvey, Ill.) to place third in the 4x100-meter relay at 43.15. Fleming, Kuyoro and Majors later collaborated with senior Joshua Campbell (Cartersville, GA/Chattanooga Tech College) (Cartersville, Ga.) to finish seventh in the 4x400-meter relay after recording a time of 3:32.01.

 

Majors finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.98 and Campbell placed 10th in the 400-meter hurdles at a time of 58.10.

 

Freshman Matthew Jordan (Mogadore, OH/Field) (Mogadore, Ohio) also tallied a pair of top-10 finishes by taking fourth in the 5,000-meter run at a time of 16:18.02 in addition to finishing 10th in the 10,000-meter run with a PR time of 34:23.90. Joining Jordan in the 10,000m race was senior Arturs Bareikis (Oak Forest, IL/Robert Morris (Ill.) University) (Oak Forest, Ill.), who placed eighth at a personal-best time of 34:11.47.

 

In the javelin event, junior Earnest Jones (Chicago, IL/Proviso West) (Chicago, Ill.) recorded his second personal-best mark of the outdoor season after posting a toss of 124-08 to place fifth, and senior Anthony Davis (Gurnee, IL/North Park Univ.) (Gurnee, Ill.) produced a PR in his first-ever competition in the event with a mark of 82-08 to finish eighth.

 

CSU stays home this Saturday as it will compete in the annual Chicagoland Championships, held at the University of Chicago, beginning at 11 a.m.
