Men's Track Kicks Off Outdoor Season at SIU Spring Classic

Sophomore Uri Kuyoro recorded two top-ten finishes at the SIU Spring Classic, including a fourth-place showing in the 400-meter dash

CHICAGO - Chicago State men's track and field opened its outdoor schedule on March 27 by placing sixth at the SIU Spring Classic in Carbondale, Ill.  In addition to CSU, other teams that competed in the meet included Illinois State, Saint Louis, Marquette and the host Salukis.

Sophomore Uri Kuyoro (Harvey, Ill.) led the Cougars with a pair of top-10 finishes at the meet. He finished fourth in the 400-meter dash at a time of 50.46 and earned a sixth-place showing in the 200m race with a time of 23.07. 

Freshman Matthew Jordan (Mogadore, OH/Field) (Mogadore, Ohio) also set a new personal-best time in the 5,000-meter run after crossing the finish line at 16:08.49.

In the javelin throw, sophomore Jonathon Majors (Richton Park, Ill./Thornwood) (Richton Park, Ill.) recorded a PR with a throw of 130-11 to finish sixth. Juniors Earnest Jones (Chicago, IL/Proviso West) (Chicago, Ill.) and Xavier Williams (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) (Chicago, Ill.) also posted PR marks in the javelin with throws of 114-02 and 112-09, respectively.

CSU is back in action on Saturday, April 3 as it travels to Charleston, Ill., to compete in the Eastern Illinois Big Blue Classic, held at EIU's O'Brien Field.
