TULSA, Okla. - Over three inches of snow and 18-degree wind chills made for some interesting times Saturday as the Bradley track & field team opened its outdoor season at the Tulsa Duels hosted by Tulsa's Hurricane Stadium. The freezing temperatures and driving snow led to a reduced event schedule, but the Braves still managed to record six top-10 finishes, including three in the 1,500-meter run.
Freshman Nicole Benson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.) earned Bradley's top performance of the day with a second-place finish in the 1,500 with a time of 4:56.60, followed closely by junior Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North H.S.) in fourth at 4:57.71 and senior Shannon Seyller (Harvard, Ill./Harvard H.S.) in eighth at 5:11.27.
In the 100-meter dash, sophomore Tatierra Bivens (Chicago, Ill./Marist H.S.) claimed fifth place with a time of 15.30, while junior Jaclyn Gonzales (Fullerton, Calif./Union H.S.) was eighth at 16.77.
Bradley's sixth top-10 finish came in the javelin throw as senior Erika Sepich (Canton, Ill./Canton H.S.) threw for a distance of 32.63 meters.
The Braves will be back in action March 26-27 at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
