Men’s Track Posts Multiple Top-10 Finishes at Milwaukee

Sophomore Jonathan Majors posted three top-10 finishes that included wins in the 60-meter dash and the long jump at the UWM Panther Tune-Up

CHICAGO Chicago State men's track and field had three individuals record multiple top-10 finishes in producing an outstanding team showing Friday night in the UWM Panther Tune-Up at the Klotsche Center in Milwaukee.

 

Sophomore Jonathan Majors (Richton Park, Ill.) led the Cougars with three top-10 places that included two first-place finishes. He captured the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 6.99 and won the long jump with a PR mark of 22-10.75 in addition to finishing second in the triple jump with a leap of 45-4.25.

 

Junior Earnest Jones (Chicago, IL/Proviso West) (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Uri Kuyoro (Harvey, Ill.) each recorded a pair of top-10 showings of their own during the meet. Kuyoro placed fourth in the 60m at a personal-record time of 7.17. In the 200-meter dash, Jones finished fifth with a time of 23.27 and Kuyoro produced a time of 23.30 to finish sixth in the event. Jones also placed third in the long jump at a mark of 21-6.25 and set a PR in the 60m with a time of 7.26.

 

The final CSU athlete to gain multiple top-10 finishes was junior Xavier Williams (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) (Chicago, Ill.) as he finished sixth in the shot put (33-10.00) and weight throw (24-8.00). Sophomore Jershawn Dubose (Chicago, Ill.) placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.08, while junior Daniel Fleming (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) placed fourth in the pole vault thanks to a mark of 9-2.25.

 

In addition, freshman Matthew Jordan (Mogadore, OH/Field) (Mogadore, Ohio) and senior Joseph Leyendecker (Richton Park, IL/Rich South HS) (Richton Park, Ill.) recorded season-high times in the 800-meter run of 2:09.13 and 2:18.49, respectively, while senior Arturs Bareikis (Oak Forest, IL/Robert Morris (Ill.) University) (Oak Forest, Ill.) posted a PR time of 9:13.34 in the 3,000-meter run.

 

Fleming later teamed with Jordan, Bareikis and Leyendecker to finish fourth in the 4x400-meter relay after crossing the finish line at a time of 3:45.02.

 

The Cougars head to Vermillion, S.D. to compete in the second-annual Great West Conference Indoor Championships at the DakotaDome on Feb. 26-27.
