CHICAGO – The Chicago State men's track and field team posted several personal-best records and competed well against national competition on Feb. 5-6 at the annual Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame.
Senior Josh Campbell (Cartersville, Ga.) and sophomore Uri Kuyoro (Harvey, Ill.) each paced CSU by recording two PR times in sprinting events. Campbell posted indoor personal-best times of 36.43 in the 300-meter dash and a 51.55 in the 400-meter dash. Kuyoro joined Campbell with a new PR mark in the 400m at a time of 49.82 and ran the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:07.43.
Sophomore Jonathan Majors (Richton Park, Ill.) and junior Jerrel Thornton (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) (Chicago, Ill.) also competed in the 300m and set new PR times in the race. Majors crossed the finish line at 36.87, while Thornton ran for a time of 38.63.
Junior Jamal Ephraim (Hazel Crest, IL/Lincoln College) (Hazel Crest, Ill.) set a new personal-best standard in the 200-meter dash when he ran for a time of 22.67, just .21 seconds under his previous mark that was set two weeks ago.
“I am pleased with the outstanding job our guys did competing against some the top runners in the country,” said CSU head coach Wayne Holloway. “We gained a lot of experience as we continue preparation for conference.”
The Cougars head to Ames, Iowa, this weekend for the annual Iowa State Classic at ISU's Lied Recreation Center. The meet starts Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
