=============================
On the Oak Park streets and in the sandpit, Kwabena Osei-Yeboah is better known as 'Gee-Gee,' a proud nickname given to him by his uncle as a youngster. In terms of the sport of track and field, it would be an oxymoron to describe the bulging senior superstar from Oak Park River Forest HS. Osei-Yeboah is beginning to establish himself in the state lexicon despite being the defending 3A long jump champion. With an everlasting smile, Gee Gee has an eye on soaring well past the 24 foot mark in his specialty event and capturing the triple jump state title.
Osei-Yeboah isn't a novice initially; he started in the youth ranks, competing for Coach Nicole Lincoln's Rush Athletics Track Club in Plainfield, Illinois. He was able to steadily get faster and jump farther from age eight through middle school, leaping over 21'5" as a freshman.
Navigating through the COVID-19 period was tough, but Osei-Yeboah became a better track and field athlete. He took fifth in the state long jump and second in his AAU Nationals age group by the end of the summer of 2023.
2024 would be the year that no one outside of the Huskies camp saw coming. While eyes were on the sprints and relays, Gee Gee added the triple jump to his repertoire. He improved his speed (running on the 4x1 relay), which enabled him to become a dual threat. He earned a fourth-place finish in the TJ and runner-up status at the Illinois Top Times, leaping over 23 feet for the first time (23'6.75"). Time seems like it has stood still for Osei-Yeboah during last year's outdoor season. He dominated the runway, undefeated in the long jump against Illinois competition.
This season's goal is reaching for the stars, and it starts by upholding a strict and consistent training regimen, which he expressed during the interview (above). For whatever college is fortunate enough to land this future star, it will be like hitting the lottery with a pot of gold attached to it.
