In the end, it was a Johnson sister that withstood all challengers
TOP RETURNERS
You may not call Johnson & Johnson for legal advice, but we'd recommend picking up the phone and asking about their triple jump dominance last season. One home in Huntley can stake a claim for two of the top five spots nationally amongst indoor returners. Led by indoor 2022 national freshman leader Dominique Johnson the triple jump in Illinois may have multiple spots amongst the nation's best. The Sophomore sensation burst onto the scene and made her mark right away. With three performances over the magical 40-foot barrier so early in her career don't be surprised to see her enter the headlines throughout the indoor season with eye-popping jumps.
The biggest challenge to Dominique may be the person who travels to school with her daily, yes sister Alex Johnson who still has a bucket list to check off before leaving for Arizona State University. The reigning, defending state triple jump champion will aim for history while also holding on to family braggings right. The elder Johnson's quest to become a rare back-to-back dual state champion in the horizontal jumps is about to begin. Let the race to triple jump supremacy begin.

Elissa Perkins (Sr., Plainfield East) has already begun her indoor campaign one foot better than where she started last season, winning at the most recent CYUP Misfits Invitational. Maybe this is a sign of good things to come over the next three months. A top 15 indoor returner in the nation will look to lay the indoor groundwork with hopes of also cracking the 40-foot barrier and challenging for a title in late May.
Alice Sotelo (Sr., Sterling) represents the western portion of the state in this event, she'll do it again this indoor season as the reigning class 2A state champion. A consistent jumper who dropped a personal best at the IHSA State meet will look to attack the three-phase event indoors to set up her title defense outdoors.
Karli Mann (Jr., Herrin)- A talented multi-sport athlete who plays volleyball in the fall and basketball in the winter. Mann's indoor season has been cut short primarily because of hoops. Yet, she was still able to win the 2A Top Times title.
Honorable Mention: Brooke Sawatzky (Sr., Naperville Central), Sofia Rosenzweig (Sr., Barrington), Haneefa Adam (Sr., River Forest [Regina Dominican]), Paulina Tinajero (Sr., Dundee-Crown), Ava Maglaya (Sr., Romeoville), Ashley Banaszek (Jr., Loyola Academy), Anna Lopez (Sr., Peru St. Bede), Kennedy Ross (Sr., Chicago Lindblom)
