Cross Country Finishes Season At Regional

Panther men post 24th place finish

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country teams closed out their 2009 seasons on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Midwest Regional. The EIU men finished 24th overall while the women did not post a team score after being hit with some late week illness.

The men placed 24 out of 25 scoring schools with 632 points. The top finisher was Bradley LaRocque who placed 89th overall with a 10k time of 33:40.7. LaRocque was the lone EIU runner to finish in the top 100 as Mead Hassan of Minnesota took home top honors with a mark of 30:21.9.

Matt Feldhake placed 118th with David Holm in 145th, Aaron Iaun in 154th and Matt Dettloff in 159th to account for the Panther men's scoring runners. Feldhake finished with a time of 34:29.3 while Holm posted a mark of 35:30.5. Iaun crossed in 35:52.7 with Dettloff close behind at 36:08.01.

Mario Castrejon and Graham Morris rounded out the EIU men's team that traveled to Missouri State. Castrejon was 165th with a time of 36:32.3 while Morris was 168th at 36:45.2.

On the women's side EIU was saddled with several scheduled runners coming down with a late week illness as head coach Geoff Masanet scratched three runners on Friday morning from the scheduled trip. Senior Erin O'Grady was the top women's runner for the Panthers with a time of 24:33.0 finishing in 145th place.

Danielle Dickman, Elizabeth Dole and Stephanie Peisker rounded out the four member EIU team that made the trip. Dickman was 157th with a time of 24:56.8 while Dole was 167th at 25:43.4. Peisker closed out the EIU runners in 170th position at 25:53.4

Angela Bizzarri of Illinois was the overall women's winner in the 6K distance at 20:07.5. Minnesota won the women's team title while Oklahoma State captured the men's regional title.
