Neshia Robertson placed 42nd at the Great West Conference Championships to lead CSU

CHICAGO – Chicago State women's cross country traveled to famed Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y., to battle seven other teams for the 2009 Great West Championships on Oct. 31.

The Cougars, who recorded an eighth-place finish at the meet, were led by sophomore Neshia Robertson (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) as she posted a 42nd-place finish in the 6K race with a time of 27:27.21.

Other CSU runners that competed in the meet were sophomore Shekeisha Brown (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) (47th), freshman Lauren Marsh-Buntrock (Wylie, TX/Wylie) (50th), freshman Olivia Sloss (Country Club Hills, IL/Hillcrest) (53rd) and sophomore Sundra Smiley (Chicago, IL/Gwendolyn Brooks) (54th).

“I thought that the CSU women's team had a successful 2009 cross country season. Their will and dedication to preparing for this meet was very good. We will look to continue our development as a program and compete for the 2010 Great West Championship,” said first-year head coach Diana Muhammad.

Utah Valley won its second straight team title after producing 21 points and UVU's Mary Nothum captured the individual championship with a time of 22:16.49.
