2022 IHSA Girls Sectionals: The full rundown


2A Realm-

Chicago De La Salle Sectional (Thursday, May 12) 
Summary: Kennedy Ross (Jr., Chicago Lindblom) enjoyed a stellar day in the field and on the track. Ross won the 100H in 14.93, 300H in 46.47, triple jump, and ran a leg on winning 4x1 relay; Symone Frison (So., Chicago Lindblom) wins the 100 in 12.24.

Chicago Latin Sectional (Thursday, May 12)
Summary: Latin senior star Ava Parekh advances in two races: 1600 (5:05.97, teammate Mia Kotler 5:09.39) and 800 (2:18.81); Gabi Walker (So., Depaul Prep) takes the 800 in 2:17.20; Kotler is victorious in the 3200 (11:01.06); class discus leader Alice Mihas (jr., Latin) wins easy w/125'11.75" toss.

Dunlap Sectional (Wednesday, May 11) 
Summary: Becca Heitzig (So., Lincoln) will be gunning for the 800m crown after not entering into any other event. The reality of going under 2:10 could happen in Charleston with some competition. Lena Jackson (Fr., Peoria Richwoods) took the Century title in 12.22 and the half-lap affair with a time of 25.33. She teamed with her mates in the 4x200 to run a very good 1:43.63.

Geneseo Sectional (Wednesday, May 11) 
Summary: The hosts and defending state champions pick up key entrants to move on to Charleston. Individually, Ali Rapps (Sr) won the 100H (15.73), 300H (45.04); Annie Wirth (Jr) take HJ (5'9.25"- she is already the state leader), LJ champ, and second in the 300H (45.08); the Leaf's advance the relays 4x1, 4x2, 4x4 (4:05.36)

Genoa (Genoa-Kingston) Sectional (Friday, May 13)
Summary: Lianna Surtz (Sr., Aurora Rosary) cruises in the 1600 and 3200; Isabella Orozco (So., Aurora Central Catholic) wins the 800 and 400 (1:00.17)

Glen Ellyn (Glenbard South) Sectional (Friday, May 13)
Summary: Louisa Diamond (Jr., Benet Academy) advances to state after winning the 3200 and 1600 (5:04.85)

Kankakee Sectional (Wednesday, May 11)
Summary: the hosts start with big relay wins in the 4x1 (47.89), 4x2, 4x4; Na'Kyrah Cooks (So) adds to the Kay's arsenal with 19'2.75" LJ PR win; Naomi Bey-Osborne (Fr) leads a strong 400 field with 57.63 (she also won the 200 in 25.45); Nevaeh Lowe (Jr) makes it out in the 100 and 200.

Mundelein (Carmel) Sectional (Wednesday, May 11)
Summary: Emmi Scales (Jr., St. Viator) advances with three wins- 100H (14.41), 300H (44.21), 100 (12.32); Mary Grace Hegberg (Sr., St. Viator) takes second in the 3200 (10:46.79) but wins the 1600 in a state sectional best 4:50.44); state 3200 leader Elia Ton-That (Sr., Chicago Northside Prep) rolls to a state sectional top time of 10:25.62 (2nd in 1600- 4:59.46); Lakes runs fastest class 4x800 (9:51.05)

Salem Sectional (Thursday, May 12)
Summary: Alaina Lester (So.,  Belleville Althoff) earns three gold medals: 100 (12.32), 200 (25.67), and TJ; watch for Ja Breah Liddell (Sr., Mt. Vernon) who clocked 58.96 in the 400; Molly Grohmann (Jr., Waterloo) is the HJ champ (5'7")

Tolono Unity Sectional (Thursday, May 12)
Summary: Tatum David (Jr., Richland County) advances in the 3200 and 1600 (4:54.06)

Troy-Triad Sectional (Thursday, May 12)
Summary: Kayda Austin (So., Cahokia) gets a big 200 win in 25.44; Colleen Zeibert (Jr., Rochester) wins the 800 in 2:19.08; Desire Poole (Sr., E. St. Louis Sr.) takes the DT 126'3"
