On a symbolic day in terms of this country's remembrance of 9/11/2001, the fans, coaches, and athletes showed their appreciation with a moment of silence just before the start of the first race at 8:30am.

The boys junior/senior race kicked things off as Mark Hasbrouck of Wheaton-Warrenville South won in 16:34. Chicago Jones would take the team title with 49 points.

The girls varsity race followed in anticipation of #1 Elmhurst York. Though we are talking 3A, they are classified as the best overall team in the state. Quickly, the Lady Dukes got out front with six girls among the top dozen through the first mile (all under 5:45). The end result was a thumping win over a good #4 Prospect team 35-78. Unranked Maine South took a strong second with 109 points. Individually, the upstart junior Grace Schager of Glenbard North muscled her way through the fray just before the second mile in 11:25. It was clear sailing as she became the first runner under 17:00 this season at 16:57.

The boys varsity race was supposed to be closer than the final outcome. #11 Wheaton-Warrenville South and #15 St. Charles East have two of the best teams in 3A over the past five years. As soon as the gun went off, both squads moved right to the front without hesitation. St. Charles East senior star Micah Wilson led from beginning to end with 4:46, 9:56 splits. His margin of victory was unmatched as he cruised home ahead of Wheaton South's Michael Atkins with a time of 14:51. Atkins also broke 15:00, running 14:58. Lane Tech junior Hunter Whitney got the bronze medal at 15:14.

St. Charles East won the title over Wheaton South 54-71as all five starters were in the top 25.
