The Top 5 Girls Sprinters To Watch During The Outdoor Season

Asia Thomas (So., Chicago Kenwood)

-It appeared the future of Chicago sprint prowess is here. Just two years ago Thomas dominated the junior high ranks and many of us were ready to see her perform with the state's best. Then Covid-19 hit and put most if not all action on pause. During the shortened 2020 indoor season, Thomas was the state leader in the 60m (7.68) and seventh in the 200m (25.81).

The outdoor season was wiped out but several late competitions afforded athletes with an opportunity to put marks on the board. Thomas showed her fitness and perseverance, most notably at the Illinois Meet of Champions. She ran 11.91w (IL#2 all-conditions) and 58.71 (IL#1 400m). Thomas rated #1 in the 200m with a time of 25.29. And after this just completed indoor season, Thomas will enter the spring as the top overall speedster. She clocked state-leading 60 (7.67) and 200 (25.29).

If relays can be factored into the equation, Thomas will most likely anchor a powerful 4x100 and 4x200 unit. It is going to be a very interesting and fun journey this season.
