Senior Spotlight: Samantha Spencer

Sam Spencer is elated after winning the 2019 Illinois Top Times 2A Pole Vault title

She had always known her time would come...

"Sam" Samantha Spencer of New Lenox (Providence Catholic) won her first state title in 2019 and became one of the premier vaulters in the state. Spencer, who is at the top of the rich food chain, cleared 13-feet, 1/4 inch to place ninth in the 2019 New Balance Nationals Outdoor. Spencer was ready to put herself in an elite class on the national level this season after setting the all-time best 13-5.5 at a small meet. Unfortunately, the season was cut short due to Covid-19 and we were not able to see the real potential of Ms. Spencer.

Spencer is also an accomplished trackster as she has earned 2A all-state honors in the 4x200m relay as well as earned an individual spot in the 200m prelims. There was a good chance that she would have earned a podium spot in a few open spots.

Sam Spencer will now head off to the University of Minnesota where she is aimed to produce big marks over the next four years. Good luck and best wishes to her.
