On Saturday afternoon, Wheeler high school's Amaya Turner blazed across 800 meters in a new US No.2 mark of 2:10.01 in South Carolina.
Amaya Turner hasn't let this season of no racing go to waste. She has continued to work on what seems to be her best event now. Earlier this month she ran a 54 second 400m time trial apart of her training for this massive time drop of a 2:10.01.
The rising senior has been training with 2019 state 800 runner-up Maddie Russin and Emily Sonderman. She has at least one more race in store in the next couple weeks on July 7th she told MileSplit after her race this weekend.
Turner is confident that in slightly cooler conditions she will be able to run a 2:06 or faster as well.
