2019 Magis Miles: Katelynne Hart Smashes All-Time Record

St. Ignatius High School; Chicago IL

Remember the goal coming in was for Katelynne Hart to become the first Illinois girl to break 4:40 for the mile. The Glenbard West superstar was set to perform at an optimum level with rabbit Anna Parks (Point Park University graduate) performing the circuit chores. Parks is herself a multiple NAIA champion as well as breaking into the 4:30s.

Parks and Hart quickly separated from the pack, opening up the first 220y in turbo fashion.

Working in synch like teammates, the pair hit the first two metric splits in a blistering :67 and 2:16.

Hart stayed right on Park's shadow virtually the entire time. They were around 2:52 at 1k and then 3:28 on the bell.

With 150m to go, Hart moved in front of Shields who appeared to capitulate rather than face Hart's vicious closing kick. As for the historic finish, Hart accomplished her goal with a resounding 4:39.57. It would be a new state all-time best for the full mile as well as 1600m en route (4:38.00). Hart's times now put her in the top echelon of the country.
