2020 3A Girls Pre-Season Sprints Preview

100m
2019 State Champion: Taylor Gilling (Highland Park) 11.32 [+4.5]
Key Athletes: Ayanna Tommy (Sr.. Antioch), Kaylah McCall (Sr; Homewood-Flossmoor), Ranyah Hodges (Jr., Dolton [Thornton], Itzel Garcia (Jr., Aurora [Waubonsie Valley]), Hannah Bilodeau (So., Machesney Park [Harlem]), Renee Raglin (So., Alton), Sydney Weaver (So., Chicago Kenwood), Sydney Robinson (So., Chicago Whitney Young), Asia Thomas (Fr., Chicago Kenwood), Allysa Fryer (Sr., Chicago Heights [Bloom Township]), Bisola Bello (Jr., Hoffman Estates), Ta'Jae Jackson (Sr., Bolingbrook), Janea Gardner (Sr., Chicago Heights [Bloom Township])

Breakdown: The most depleted of the sprint field as a flurry of top tier talent has graduated. Two medalists from last year return, setting up the open high stakes battle for the queen of speed. Ayanna Tommy and Kaylah McCall appear to be the top candidates- both have challenged sub-12-second mark in the past.

Tommy could be relatively fresh for this event because of the lack of relay duty, while McCall could be coming off of team chores in a championship format. In addition, McCall is the state's premier hurdler and that must be factored in.

Another name to consider is Sydney Robinson. She produced a terrific introductory season in back of former state champion and Dolphin Amira Young. Robinson will be looking to build her own legacy now and that should be enough motivation.

Some lesser-known names but still dangerous include Sydney Weaver and Janae Gardner. Don't sleep on Gardner's sluggish past marks here. It was never the focus until this past off-season and the team's overall stock rising. Yes, the chess match will be played all the way into May!
