Shot Put-

2019 State Champion: Hunter Hendershot (Sr., Mahomet-Seymour) 62-1.75

Key Athletes: Hendershot, Athan Huelskamp (Sr., Arlington Heights [St. Viator]), Jake Renfro (Sr., New Lenox [Providence Catholic]), Matt Wilson (Sr., Mascoutah), Clay Alewelt (Sr., Rochester), Josh Schmid (Sr., Marion), Jake Borman (Jr., Burlington Central), Devin Hale (Jr., Springfield [Sacred Heart-Griffin]), Anjay Rush (So., Chicago Heights [Marian Catholic]), Jacob Thomas (Sr., Monmouth-Roseville), Randy Wright (Sr., Cahokia), Brody Vollrath (Sr., Peoria Richwoods)

Breakdown: Hunter Hendershot is the state of Illinois top man in this event and the 11th best returner in the country. Stateside, Hendershot has dominated the shot put scene ever since his sophomore year when he threw over 60 feet for the first time in his career and gained his first state title. The only question there is for for the Bulldogs star is far will he throw? Could 65+ feet be possible?

Behind Hendershot is a field that is no joking matter with two other competitors coming in with marks that rank among the top 100 returners in the US. The first being US#37 competitor Athan Huelskamp. Huelskamp had a great junior campaign that was just overshadowed by Hendershot. Huelskamp went above and beyond this summer garnering All-American honors at the AAU Junior Olympics placing 4th in the 17-18 age group.

Jake Renfro returns with a top 100 US mark, but is his mind truly focused on the ring? Renfro is a standout 3-star football player for the Celtics and is committed to playing football at the University of Cincinnati. What will be his mindset coming into this year?
