The 2A distance field has gotten noticeably deeper with the Latin School of Chicago moving from 1A to 2A this season and the addition of superstar freshman Tatum David of Richland County. This introduces four giants into the field: David, Ava Parekh, Marianne Mihas, and the 2A returner Lianna Surtz.
After Latin took second at the 1A state meet in 2019, it became apparent they had grown to be able to handle the competition level of 2A, and it will be a good opportunity for the Latin girls to compete in a deeper field this season.
Only a freshman, Tatum David has garnered attention across the state and nation with two All-American cross country finishes. We do not know yet which events we will see her focusing on this season, but count on some blazing fast 1600m and 3200m times from David in 2020.
