MileSplitCA 2019 All-State Boys XC Team


The MileSplitCA All-State 2019 Boys Cross Country Team is a subjective selection based primarily on results from the State Meet with strong consideration given to results at the section championships, top times at major meets, and other factors. We selected four seven-runner teams.

First Team

Jace Aschbrenner, Sr., Newbury Park (SS)



Teamed with Nico Young to lead Newbury Park to section, state and NXN titles. ... Runner-up in Division II at State and Division 2 at the Southern Section. ... Ran under the previous Riverside City Course record at the SS Final. ... 18th at NXN and No. 3 among CA boys. 


Carrick Denker, Sr., Dana Hills High School (SS)



Placed third in Division II at the State while leading Dana Hills to a runner-up finish and a berth on the line at NXN. ... Time at State of 14:59.90 was the fourth fastest overall on the course that day. It also ranked as the fourth fastest ever in D-II at State. ... Placed 43rd at NXN, No. 7 among CA boys.


Isaiah Galindo, Sr., Clovis North (CS)



Runner-up in Division I at State in 15:00.50, which ranked fifth overall at the meet. ... Central Section Division 1 champion ... 5K PR from State ranks CA No. 10. ... 23rd at NXN, No. 5 among CA boys. ... Headed to UC Davis. 


Anthony Grover, Sr., JSerra Catholic (SS)



The first three-time State Division IV champion and only the fourth boy ever to win three State divisional titles. ... Southern Section Division 4 champion. ... Placed 21st at NXN, fourth among CA boys. ... Headed to Wake Forest. 


Third in Division I at State in 15:02.90, which ranked sixth overall. ... North Coast Section Division 1 champion in 14:36.60 over the 3-mile Hayward HS course. ... Ran 3-mile PR of 14:18.70 at Amanda Garcia Memorial that ranks U.S. No. 9. ... Ran at NXN, placing 117th.

Matt Strangio, Sr., Jesuit (SJ)



Won second State Division I title while running the No. 2 time and leading his team to second place. ... Three-time Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 champion. ... Won 11 races while also running course records with PRs, including De La Salle (14:42.26) and Capital Cross (14:39.90). Third, despite an illness, at Clovis (14:49.10) while dipping under the meet standard. ... Fourth at NXN. ... Headed to Portland. 


Nico Young, Sr., Newbury Park (SS)



NXN champion with a record time of 14:52.3. ... Won second State Division II title while running No. 2 time ever on the 5K Woodward Park course (14:28.50). ... Won second Southern Section Division 2 title while shattering his own record on the 3-mile Riverside City Course (13:54.1). ... Ran U.S. No. 1 time for 3-miles at Woodbridge (13:29.70). ... Led team to section, state and NXN titles. ... Headed to Northern Arizona.
