PEORIA, Ill. - Bradley senior Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake H.S.) set a personal best 5K time of 18:03, earning her first career victory at the 24th annual Bradley Open at Detweiller Park Friday afternoon. DePaul's Matthew Graham took home the men's 8K title with a time of 24:24. Indiana State claimed its fourth-straight men's team championship with all seven runners finishing in the top-10. The Sycamores also won the women's team title for the second-straight year, placing four runners in the top-10. Bradley's men's and women's teams each turned in third place finishes.
In the university division race, junior Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North H.S.) finished 14 seconds behind Nowak in third place, while junior Leann Murphy (Rochester, Ill./Rochester H.S.) cracked the top-20 with a 16th place finish in 19:28. Seniors Shannon Seyller (Harvard, Ill./Harvard H.S.) and Melanie Glander (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg H.S.) completed Bradley's scoring with 19th and 31st place finishes respectively.
On the men's side, junior Billy Miller (Metamora, Ill./Illinois Central/Metamora H.S.) paced the Braves with a 16th place finish in the university division race with a time of 27:27. Matching Miller's time was teammate Zach Bowling (Heyworth, Ill./Danville Area C.C./Heyworth H.S.), followed by Chris Frank (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart-Griffin H.S.) in 19th place, Nick Skromme (Ottawa, Ill./Marquette H.S.) in 20th place and Eric Garcia (Oswego, Ill./Oswego H.S.) in 21st place.
In the college division, North Central College earned the men's team title with help from a first place finish by Kyle Brady (24:41). Illinois Wesleyan won the women's team championship while Lewis' Kathryn Hague turned in a first place time of 18:09.
The Bradley men's and women's cross country teams will return to action Saturday, Sept. 19 at Missouri State University at 10 a.m.
