There are distance runners and then there is Abby Lopez aka née Abigail. The rising senior from Argo High School in Summit anonymously burst on the bubbling scene late in the 2017 cross country season. It was on a late October morning that Ms. Lopez won the 3A Lyons Township Regional. A week later she would take the Hinsdale Central Sectional title with ease. Finally, Lopez forced running conscious ones to take notice with a sixth place in the state meet, clocking a sizzling 16:39 for three miles.
Over time the affectionate smile that Lopez often displays is transfixed on virtually everyone that she meets. It's safe to say that she is a favorite among her peers.
