Belleville W Girls To Host Electrifying SW Conference Tilt

One of the state's most electrifying conference meets will take place at Belleville West HS today

Although Belleville West and E. St. Louis Sr. are in two different classes, they have been competitive rivals of late. Last weekend at the St. Clair County Championship, #3 3A Belleville West defeated the #1 2A Flyerettes 183-175. Expect things to be just as stressful if not closer this team around.

What to watch for-

The sprint relays are destined to set the track afire. The 4x100 will feature three teams in the 48s. West has 47.85 and will be the favorite. ESL and Belleville Belleville East are no slouches either. They have dropped 48.45 and 48.58 respectively. The 4x200 maybe even better. The Flyerettes could be the first team under 1:41 after today. They ran 1:41.85 and will be pushed by East and West who are at 1:42.87 and 1:43.07- all three units rank in the top four in the state. Lastly, ESL is unmatched in the 4x400 with a rocking 3:54.39. Can they or will they be motivated to go faster?

Abby Korak (Jr., Edwardsville) will be the favorite in the 400

Laqwasia Stepney (Sr., Belleville West) back after mending during the indoor season. Stepney is dangerous whether on a relay or in the pit jumping.

Jessica Coughlin (Jr., Belleville West) is the centerpiece of a dangerous and underrated team

Veronica Sherrod (Jr., E. St. Louis Sr.) is ready to run a blazing time in the 300H. Can she be the first one under 43.00?
