The Prospect Wanner Knights Invitational has a long history of distance prowess in its 51 years of existence. Among the lore is the 4x800 relay and the excitement that it provides the faithful. In 2000, the Dukes of York set a national record with a still standing all-time state best 7:34.1. In that affair was the heroic effort by the legendary Donald Sage who anchored his mates with a 1:50.3 split. Now, years later the Wanner's #1 event continues to serve as a benchmark for excellence.
Naperville Central ran a complete race in erasing a huge early debt set by host Prospect. The Red Hawks copped the top time in the state, winning easily without their ace Thomas Shilgalis who played the cheerleader.
Lane Tech earned the state's #2 time followed by Prospect #5, Hononegah #6, and Lyons Twp. #8
