One of the longest grandstanding meets is back again. And every year, the Palatine Relays is one that teams usually look forward to despite the run of inclement weather.
Although the nice weather has started approaching us this late April, this weekend's temperatures are not promising in Palatine. With expected rain and even possible snow, competing conditions may be rough. On both the boys and girls sides, many of the top athletes in the state will be competing, and it will definitely be an exciting meet to be in attendance at.
Sprints-
To kick off the meet, the girls' 300 hurdles will be one to look out for with three of the top ten athletes in 3A in this field. With the top seeding, senior Gabby Cossio from Barrington will look to take the crown over Evanston's Gabriella Calixte. For the boys, Trey Sebben of Portage is someone to keep an eye out for, being the only athlete to break 40.
In the high hurdle races for the girls, a competitive field is present, and Palatine's Erin Oleksak is the favorite in the event, while Tommy Subaric from Jacobs looks to take the win for the boys, being one of eighteen athletes to go sub-15 in the event.
Another exciting race to look out for is the 4x200 relay team of Evanston with their 1:45 seed time, as it seems to be a win they are capable of claiming, while the boys' race will be much tighter between the team of Portage, Fremd, and Kenwood all fight for the top time.
Kenwood's girls' 4x100 is the top team to watch, while the boys' top 4x100 team is Portage.
To top the night, Barrington's girls' 4x400 team is the only one under the state qualifying standard. For the boys, both Fremd and Barrington will be fighting for the win.
For the boys' 200m dash, Ryan Curington from De La Salle is the favorite with his seed time of 22.37.
Distance-
With Distance Night in Palatine being last weekend, it should be another exciting weekend of distance runners who are back in this field. Molly FitzPatrick from Barrington is back this week after running the mile last weekend, but this week, she's running the 3200m, being the only athlete in the event under 11 minutes. Dillon Blake is our top athlete on the boys' side with his 9:16 seed time.
The 4x800 relay should be another exciting event to watch. Girls' teams of Hersey and Barrington will battle for the win, and the boys of Mundelein and Barrington again will strive to get the top time.
In the open 800m, both Mundelein's Michael Parduhn and Dario Carrillo will look to take the top two spots in the event.
