2A Girls Field Events Preview: Serena Bolden Is Numero Uno

Discus Throw-
2018 State Champion: Tayla Schwarz (Dixon) 133-6
Key returners: Sydney Apgar (Sr., Carbondale), Bailey Bertrand (Jr., Marengo), Kylie Feuerbach (Jr., Sycamore), Rebecca Beltran (Sr., Tinley Park), Lanaeja Carter (Jr., Urbana), Kaila Poole (Sr., East St. Louis (Sr.), Helena Driscoll (Sr., Bartonville [Limestone]), Sarah Sorrell (Jr., Sherrard), Destiny Panega (Sr., Centralia)
Outlook: The graduation of the top two performers which included two-time state champion Tayla Schwarz and runner-up Evangelynn Harris will keep this event in the emerging stage. But don't tell two-time all-starter Sydney Apgar that. She is the top returner from the state meet with a third-place finish with a mindset to take things to the next level. Her personal best 130-1 is just a start to something big if you consider how successful recent throwers have been under the Carbondale program.

Chandler Hayden drops in from 1A due to a classification change. The senior from Pittsfield is an all-around great thrower and her 134-7 effort is now the top returning performance. This will certainly raise the level of intensity and a major roadblock to Apgar's plans for a state title when the pair meets outdoor. Lanaeja Carter, Destiny Panega, and Bailey Bertrand are the other assailants to go over 125-feet.
