The underclassmen in last year's state finals field were exceptional
400m-
2018 State Champion: Carmen DeVries (Sr., Lena-Winslow) 57.04
Key returners: Nariah Parks (So., Belleville [Althoff Catholic]), Delanie Dykes (So., Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley), Maleigha Huston (So., Bushnell-Prairie City), Kenzie Rushing (So., Pinckneyville), Capria Brown (Jr., Danville ([Schlarman])
Outlook: Six of the top nine from last year's state championship final were underclassmen. One name in particular that the competition, in general, should be concerned with is Nariah Parks. The state runner up came out of nowhere to surprise a veteran field. Although she attends Althoff HS, Parks was seen hanging with the mighty trackers of hometown Belleville West at the state meet. Parks even appeared in a serious mood afterward over a post-meet milkshake. The key rival and possible personal to overthrow things is Delanie Dykes. She took home a fourth-place medal. Kenzie Rushing and Maleigha Huston ran under 1:00 at the state meet en route to all-state honors. Sophomore Marianne Mihas from Chicago Latin does not specialize here, but the middle and long distance ace ran a solid 59.41 during the regular season.
