This week we had a lot of big shakeups as state and NXN Region qualifying meets are starting to bring out the best races in teams. One of the most notable moves is Fayetteville-Manlius (FM) moving ahead of Great Oak (CA). FM ran one of their best races of the season at the NYSPHSAA - New York State Championships. The team won the meet with one of the best team averages on that course ever. They ran with a 17-second 1-5 split and a 16:14 team average. They are starting to look like the team that finished second at nationals last year. With that being said the state meet is coming up in California and we can only assume that Great Oak has also gotten better over the past month. The top three teams in the ranks have distanced themselves from the rest of the pack.

Other big moves came from La Salle Academy (RI), who beat previously No. 4-ranked Bishop Hendricken (RI) at the New England XC Championships. The guys from Wheaton Warrenville South (IL) dropped from No. 3 to No. 12 after losing to a surging Hersey (IL) squad at the NXN Midwest region. Burnt-Hills boys also took a nice jump up after also having a strong outing at the New York State meet. They won the Class B race.

California note -- Many of the California teams remain ranked in the same spot or near where they were ranked in the previous update. The biggest meet which was run in California between this update and the last was the CIF Southern Section Prelims. Since seven teams per division -- there are five divisions -- qualify for the section division finals this weekend many teams sat out varsity or ran easy just to qualify/advance and move on.
