St. Charles East Boys March Into Lake Park And Dominate

St. Charles East put on a clinic at on the Lake Park HS campus

Virtually every team was itching to get in their invitational for the first time year. Last weekend was pretty much a "washout" for those whose schedule kept them in the Chicagoland area. #19 St. Charles East was one of those teams affected by thunderstorms on September 1. So there would be no fooling around here at Lake Park.

The opening of the race saw the Saints pack up with four of their top five guys leading the charge. Bob Liking, Bennett Malone, and Aidan King were among the noticeable figures. #25 Lane Tech, Jones Prep, #21 Huntley, and #6 Naperville Central was also in the fold. The Red Hawks were missing seniors Thomas Shilgalis and Seth Klein-Collins. Shilgalis was away on a college visit.

The first mile was just under 5:00 with most of the aforementioned teams still packed up. However, it was soon after Liking boldly moved out front and pushed the pace. The bite-sized runner was clear of the field at two-miles in 10:12. St. Charles still had numbers upfront followed by Jones Prep.

It was clear that inside the final mile that Liking was going to win, with just more than 400m remaining he entered the stadium to a cheering crowd. Liking made the horseshoe turn toward the final straight and into the finish line with a personal best 15:05. Malone and King followed suit with 15:15.8 and 15:15.9 clockings. The final tally was 22 points for the Saints and with it more respect for the program from the pundits.
