Boys All-Time State Meet Records That Could Go Down In 2018

The 100m record could fall this weekend in Charleston

As the state meet approaches there has been a lot of talk about boys breaking state records, but very few people know what the records are. Join the "Biased Kid" as he tells you the top contenders for each record, the state meet record, and if he thinks that record will go down.

100m-

Top Contenders: Marcellus Moore (So, Plainfield North HS), Courtney Lindsey (Sr, Rock Island HS), Declan Rustay (Sr, Hoffman Estates HS)

Record Holder: Keith Thomas (Chicago Kenwood HS) 10.37- 1986

Carson's Thoughts: This record is not safe. If the winds are favoring Moore and he can show that he has enough endurance to handle eight events in two days, then I think Moore has a good chance of beating that state record set by Thomas not Josh Eiker.

200m-

Top Contenders: Marcellus Moore (So, Plainfield North HS), Courtney Lindsey (Sr, Rock Island HS)

Record Holder: Anthony Moorman (Lake Park HS) 20.89, 1997

Carson's Thoughts: This record is not safe as Moore has already run under this time during the sectional meet and Lindsey was close to this time at the same sectional meet when he took 2nd to Moore with a 20.94.

400m-

Top Contenders: Brandon Adams (Sr, Minooka HS), Luis Cossio (Sr, Barrington HS), VanHarvey Vance (Sr., Rich Central HS)

Record Holder: Kahmari Montgomery (Plainfield Central HS) 46.24, 2015

Carson's Thoughts: This record is safe. I see no one in this field that can even be compared to Montgomery as a junior. Montgomery was dominant in his time and no one in the field has even broken 48.00 this season. This looks like it's the easiest pick to say that this record is safe.

800m-

Top Contenders: Charlie Kern (Sr, York HS), Riley Wells (Jr, Rockford-Christian HS)

Record Holder: Jason Van Swol (Lincoln-Way HS) 1:49.71- 1998

Carson's Thoughts: This record is not safe. I am feeling like Kern is going to do something crazy in his final high school race. Jason Van Swol, who is the current Lincoln-Way West HS coach, may watch his record go down at the state meet this year if Kern does something special.

1600m-

Top Contenders: Clayton Mendez (Sr, Whitney Young HS), Thomas Shilgalis (Jr, Naperville Central HS), Dylan Jacobs (Sr, Sandburg HS)

Record Holder: Jeff Thode (Conant HS) 4:05.17- 2009

Carson's Thoughts: This record is safe. As much as I love Dylan Jacobs and Clayton Mendez I just don't think they have what it takes to run a 4:05 at the state meet.

3200m-

Top Contenders: Danny Kilrea (Sr, Lyons Township HS), Clayton Mendez (Sr, Whitney Young HS), Miles Christensen (Sr, Downers Grove North HS)

Record Holder: Donald Sage (York HS) 8:42.89- 2000

Carson's Thoughts: This record is safe. It will be a very long time before anyone will even come close to Sage's amazing record. Think about it he qualified in the 1600m twice as his pace was 4:21 pace. That is crazy!

110HH-

Top Contenders: Donovan Turner (Jr, Neuqua Valley HS), Soloman Wilson-Smith (Ss, Tinley Park HS), Deion McShane (Sr, Freeport HS), Finnigan Schirmer (So, Marengo HS), Mathew Lewis-Banks (Sr, Homewood-Flossmoor HS)

Record Holder: Travis Anderson (Edwardsville HS) 13.59- 2016

Carson's Thoughts: This record is safe. Anderson may go down in history as the most dominant hurdler in IHSA history. No one in the field has broken 14 more than once this season. I will be very surprised if someone beats this record.

300H-

Top Contenders: Deion McShane (Sr, Freeport HS), Donovan Turner (Jr, Neuqua Valley HS), Mason Barr (Jr, Ridgeview HS), Steven Migut (Sr, Tolono Unity HS), Bobby Cayet (Jr, Grant HS), Jaden Jackson (Sr, Fremd HS)

Record Holder: Deion McShane (Freeport HS) 36.53- 2017

Carson's Thoughts: This record is not safe. I mean the record holder is in this field so all he has to do is improve on what he did last year and he has the record.

4x100m-

Top Contenders: Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Belleville West HS, Plainfield North HS

Record Holder: Cahokia HS (Marquis Murray, Keveion Akins, Chrishawn Crosby, Ja'Mari Ward) 41.12, 2015

Carson's Thoughts: This record is safe. HF would need to drop half a second to get this record and that is a lot in a 4x100m. They may be the returning state champs, but they don't have what it takes to get the record.

4x200m-

Top Contenders: Barrington HS, Glenbard West HS, Stevenson HS, Plainfield North HS, Belleville West HS

Record Holder: Cahokia HS (Marquis Murray, Keveion Akins, Chrishawn Crosby, Ja'Mari Ward) 1:25.83- 2015

Carson's Thoughts: This record is safe. No team has broken 1:27 this year and honestly, it is kinda sad.

4x400m-

Top Contenders: Lockport HS, Bloomington HS, Belleville West HS, Shepard HS

Record Holder: East St. Louis HS (Artavious Kizer, Mario McCottrell, Evan Johnson, Javaughn Tabbs) 3:13.66, 2007

Carson's Thoughts: This record is safe. That ESL team may be the most dominant team we will ever see in Illinois. No one in the field can be even compared to this team.

4x800m-

Top Contenders: Danville HS, Sandburg HS, Neuqua Valley HS, Downers Grove North HS, Metea Valley HS, Batavia HS

Record Holder: Sandburg HS (Tom Brennan, Dylan Jacobs, Sean Torpy, Chris Torpy) 7:37.36, 2016

Carson's Thoughts: This record is safe. The field is good in the 4x800 this season, but no team has the star power that the Sandburg team of 2016 had. They had the Torpy twins that ran low 1:50 splits and on top of that, they had a future national Foot Locker Cross Country Champion in Dylan Jacobs. No team will be able to break this record for a long time.

Discus-

Top Contenders: Jordan Johnson (Jr, Quincy HS), Brian Keyes (Sr, McHenry HS), Peyton Taylor (Sr, Mt. Pulaski HS), John Meyer Jr. (Sr, Lockport Twp. HS)

Record Holder: AJ Espensa (Edwardsville HS) 205-11, 2016

Carson's Thoughts: This record is not safe. Jordan Johnson reminds me a lot of AJ Espensa. AJ set the state record his junior year. We have three athletes at 194+ feet in the discus at the state meet. We are bound to see at least one 200+ foot throw.

Shot Put-

Top Contenders: John Meyer Jr. (Sr, Lockport Twp. HS)

Record Holder: Jermaine Kline (Lake Park HS) 66-5.75, 2011

Carson's Thoughts: This record is for sure going down. Meyer has already thrown farther than 66-5.75 on ten occasions this season. This record will be smashed.

High Jump-

Top Contenders: Camron Donatlan (Sr, West Aurora HS), Frank Massey (Sr, Bloom Twp. HS)

Record Holder: Tom Smith (Heyworth HS) 7-3.50, 1985

Carson's Thoughts: This record is safe. Donatlan went 7- foot at the state meet last year but has not been able to crack the barrier since.

Long Jump-

Top Contenders: Peyton Frankenreider (Sr, Yorkville HS), Bryan Keubeng (Sr, Plainfield East HS), Geremiah Lawson (Jr, Plainfield Central HS), Connor Artman (Sr, Illini West HS)

Record Holder: Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia HS) 25-0.25, 2015

Carson's Thoughts: This record is safe. We only have one athlete that has gone 24+ feet this year, so the thought of anyone approaching the all-time meet is absurd.

Triple Jump-

Top Contenders: Peyton Frankenreider (Sr, Yorkville HS), Jonathan Wilburn (Sr, Evanston Twp. HS), Seth Groom (Sr, Marmion Academy HS), Andra Ward (Jr, Cahokia HS)

Record Holder: Cameron Ruiz (Lakes HS) 51-1, 2017

Carson's Thoughts: This record is safe. Ruiz was dominant and this field is just not strong enough to go 50+ feet.

Pole Vault-

Top Contenders: Zachery Bradford (Sr, Bloomington HS)

Record Holder: Zachery Bradford (Bloomington HS) 17-4, 2017

Carson's Thoughts: This record is not safe. Bradford is a 3x National Champion... and indoor record holder... enough said.
