The third annual Magis Miles should be a good one. But how good? Well, last year's edition turned out to be great if you consider the high quality, high volume of participants that composed the St. Ignatius campus near downtown Chicago. The girls elite winner was Kelly O'Brien of Palatine who ran the 7th fastest mile last year (4:48.01) along with the 3rd fastest 1600m (4:46.30) in Illinois history. The boys side of the ledger was just as thrilling with Sean Torpy of Orland Park Sandburg running the fastest high school time 4:05.10.
Boys-
There will be two sets running here. The elite high school division and the Men's Magis Mile. The first race will feature Vince Zona (Sr., Lyons Twp.), Alec Danner (Downers Grove North), Danny Kilrea (Lyons Twp.), and Alex Tam (Jr., Libertyville). We should see fast times as the temperatures will be in the lower 70s and light wind at start time. But keep an eye on the Men's race because Soren Knudsen (Sr., Minooka) is set to make his national level post-season race entrance. He completed the rare triple crown last week that encompassed the fall cross country title, state 3200m, and 1600m. Knudsen ran 4:10.51 in a championship manner. He will be in it to win it against a slew of collegiate elites Friday evening. Dylan Jacobs (Jr., Sandburg) ran 4:13.57 for 1600 this season and achored his team to a second place finish in the 4x800 relay will be entered.
