The high jump was an exciting event to watch as Tyler Owen won with a leap of 6-11
Boys-
- Tyler Owen (Sr., Georgetown) got the party started when he set the class record in the high jump leaping 6-11. Owen asked the bar to be raised up to 7-0.50. Although Owen did not connect on the height but he will have plenty of opportunities during the outdoor season.
- Jon Davis used an opening "mile" 4:33 to completely dispatch his competition. Davis crushed the field and second place in a record 9:08.26. Davis indicated that he is completely healthy and had more in the tank. "I actually had to weave around people or I would have run faster," he said. Davis is now ready for the Arcadia Invitational which will take place next month in California.
- Kahlil Wassell entered in three races and won two of them. The obvious one was the 60 where he ran class best 6.98 to beat Jeremiah Davis (Sr., Chicago Collins). Wassell also won the 400 (52.02) from the penultimate section. But it was the 200 that was surprise as Davis got revenge and won in 22.76. Wassell was the runner-up in 22.98.
- Dwight won two of the three relays in state best times. The first one was the 4x8 in which the Trojans was seated with a very average 8:44. At the end of the race, the Dwight coaches were jumping for joy in clocking a class best 8:15.44. The Trojans won the 4x4 in the second session clocking 3:35.37.
- Cory Landon ran his first double of the year at the right time and stormed home late in the both the 800 and 1600. Landon admitted that the opening 400 was too slow. 61 seconds was a perfect set up in saving some energy and going for the win. The 1600 was the same story. Landon sat and waited until the final lap.
- Curtis Gordon won an unexpected double taking the 60HH in 8.26 which is IL #9. After a few breaths Gordon walked over to the pole vault and cleared 14-0. He eventually got up to 15-0 and won over Ethan Mizer (Sr., St. Joe-Ogden).
