Tony's Take: Summer Breeze Flees, Here Comes Cross Country Autumn Leaves

The start of the new cross country season is finally here... welcome to Fall 2015!

Driving through town past the tree lined streets of Evanston and seeing massive leaves beginning to drop to the ground in chunks remind me of one thing... Fall is coming soon!

You don't ever want to rush to the next season- especially the summer solstice which has been short in the Chicago-land area. I would gladly take 80s for a high temperature for the next few months. But the reality is we will get approximately another month and some change before the 60s become the norm.

The back to school TV ads are now in full force as the youngsters begin the transitions from staying up all night playing video games and hanging with friends. I received my first notice in the mail that my son's 2015-16 school fees will be due in a few weeks. Welcome back to school son!

Let's not forget about the beginning of the fall sports season. For me, it's about time to usher in the cross country campaign. I can tell you straight from being a former high school competitor, there is nothing better than walking on campus of a school for the first day of cross country practice knowing that the coaches have a time trial waiting to be executed. The feeling of confidence is great because the summer training miles were put in respectively. And there are the other sports teams out there training hard in the heat of August. Football, soccer, cheerleaders, and even the band are making a lasting impression among themselves and their coaches.

Milesplit Illinois will enter its third fall season covering a great sport such as cross country and we intend on bringing the biggest and baddest coverage around. You should expect to see top-notched on-site coverage; premium content that you can count on week end and week out such as computer rankings, virtual meets, meet videos. As well our subjective rankings will be very delightful as well.

Once again welcome to the 2015 cross country season!
