Pat Savage Invite Leads The Weekend Respise (10/4)

The harse conditions did not deter the heart and effort displayed by the hundreds of young men and women competiting in the 44th Annual Pat Savage Niles West Invitational. It was 39F when the first race commenced at 9am. It perhaps picked up a degree or two but it was still COLD!

Sandburg Head Coach John O'Malley's comments regarding his team's performance: "We were a little too slow through [the opening] 800 for this meet, but really the main thing is I think a couple guys are not running as well as they can. Greg Burzinski is way off, Sean Torpy didn't close the race down--he was in 2nd and on pace for 14:45 with 800 to go. He needs to close that out. He's better than he's run. Don't get me wrong, we are running well and we are on a good trajectory so we have a lot to be excited about but I don't think we've done everything that we can to be our best yet. Winning races means next to nothing to us right now. We need to run to our standards with our process as the focus. The best thing is that this team has learned to run from the front. They also fear no one--they have lots of respect for other runners but no fear. Our 7 guys laid out and went to run Jesse Reiser down at the 2 mile mark--they went for it. Obviously came up short."
