-CPS Championship:

  • Proviso West High School was the scene of the Chicago Public School's A & B division meet. "A" is considered the elite division.
  • Brandan Lane (Jr., Phillips) who will be a force for his team's relays during the outdoor season wins the 55m in a solid 6.58
  • Demoria Harris (Jr., Dunbar) wins the 200m by an staggering amount 22.59 to 23.22 over Michael Morgan (Sr., Phillips)
  • Northside Prep junior Malcolm Grba continues his strong indoor season in the 800m by winning in 2:01.79. Grba hung on to beat his rival Deivi Tahiraj (Sr., Mather) by less than an inch- 2:01.80.
  • Danny Rosen (So., Northside Prep) is an emerging talent in the 1600m- so those out there had better watch out in the near future. Rosen clocked 4:33.37 to easily outdistance Whitney Young's Michael Perez.
  • Whitney Young sophomore Sam Wischnewsky displayed some talent of his own with a big personal best in the 3200m (9:54.05).
  • Phillips runs a speedy 1:33.63 to turn back Dunbar 1:34.90.  Both of these speed titans will vye for the outdoor title in May

Girls-

  • Ebony McClendon (Sr., Brooks) makes it a laugher over talented Ryan Preacely (Sr., Johnson College Prep) in the 55m 6.98-7.07; McClendon runs the state's fastest time and US#8; McClendon also wins the 400m (1:01.00) and 200m (25.80) on a tight track
  • Madison Weatherly (Jr., Northside Prep) 5:25.40 in the 1600m is one of the fastest marks in the league
  • Westinghouse runs swift 1:47.23 to win the 4x200 relay
  • Briyahna Desrosiers (Sr., North Lawndale) returns one day after Gene Armer Invite to win the long jump (17-3). She ran a leg on the 4x4 and clocked 55.6
  • Zaria Evans (Jr., Westinghouse) 35-1 wins triple jump

-Large schools-

  • Planfield North wins section 6 of the 4x200m relay over Cahokia in 1:32.97 (they tie season best)
  • Springfield HS earns season best in the 4x800m relay in 8:05.60
  • Cole Henderson (Sr., Pekin) emerges better from NY trip and rips his competition in the 55m (6.39) and 200m (22.72)- the short dash mark breaks Jonathaon Boey (Decatur MacArthur) previous record; Craig James (Sr., Edwardsville) runs fast too in 6.40. Both times are 1-2 in the state; Henderson won the long jump with 22-4 leap
  • three athletes break 2:00 in the 800m led by Luke Horton of Harrisburg in 1:59.26; Evan Alcorn (Belleville West) 1:59.57, Taylor Garrett (Charleston) 1:59.74
  • Dan Lathrop (Sr., Plainfield South) runs 4:25.87 to win the 1600m
  • Cahokia wins the show stopper over rivals E. St. Louis Sr. and Edwardsville in 3:27.20
  • Manny Bofah (Sr., Plainfield North) wins another high jump title with 6-4 effort
  • Tyler Jourdan (Sr., Salem) produces IL#4 pole vault win 15-4

  • Thornton wins 4x200 in 1:32.32

-Chicago Catholic League Championships:

  • Loyola Academy junior Christian Swenson is one of four athletes to break 9:50 with his 9:33.04 in the 3200m
  • Chicago (Leo) senior Theo Hopkins sweeps dashes 55m (6.55) and 200m (22.96)
  • Chris Korabik (Sr., St. Ignatius) wins 1600m in 4:27.83 and teammate Taylor Dugas (Sr.) races to second in 4:30.61
  • Mike Monroe (Sr., Providence Catholic) 6-5 is the winning mark in the high jump

-Gene Armer Invitational (featured Milesplit meet of the week):

-Girls-

  • Frankfort (Lincoln-Way East) wins team title with 73 points. The Griffins snatched the victory on the strength of a well rounded attack.
  • Meghan Marias (Sr.) wins the 60m in a near meet record 7.68
  • Alexis Hyshaw (Sr.) gets second in the 200m by an eyelash in 25.33; Briyahna Desrosiers (Sr., N. Lawndale Prep) wins with 25.30, Brittany Thomas (Sr., Bloom) 25.80 is third
  • Jasmine Berry (Sr., Belleville West) sets personal best 56.82 in wire to wire win; Lane's Imani Davis (So.) places second in personal best 59.04; Lincoln Way East senior Dana O'Grady third in 1:00.14
  • Lane Tech senior Alex Martel breaks school record in the 800m running 2:17.55 for IL#5; Megan Shaffer (Jr., Mattoon) 2:20.07 gave a good battle before falling to second
  • Allison Zobrist (So., Highland) came from behind in the final meters to win the 1600m in 5:15.86 over Maria Brauer (So., Porta) who ran 5:16.00; Zobrist had lost the 3200m to Maria's twin sister Adrienne (11:08.04), Zobrist was third behind Maggie Schroelle (Fr., Lane Tech)
  • Lincoln-Way East wins 4x2 in 1:43.96 and 4x4 in 4:01.98 (IL#2); Lane Tech 4:02.46 is IL#3
  • Kelsey Shannon (Sr., Belleville West) 5-6 wins high jump
  • The state's top vaulter Lindsey Murray (Sr., Harrisburg) holds off Brooke Catherine (Jr., Normal Comm) and Julia Junkroski (Jr., Lincoln Way East) 12-6 to 11-6
  • The record setting shot putter  Lena Giger (Sr., Highland) wins easy despite having an "off day" 47-7

-Boys-

  • Julian Hylton (Sr., Lincoln Way North) takes 60m title despite sore hip in a meet record tying 6.95
  • Terry McGee (Sr., North Lawndale Prep) won the 200m in 22.59 after placing second in the 60m (7.00)
  • James Harriel (Sr., Bloom) 50.31 wins 400m in IL#3
  • Mike Delaney (Sr., Oswego East) sets the 800m meet record leading wire to wire in 1:57.71
  • The race of the day was the 1600m. Johnny Leverenz had won the 3200m earlier in 9:16.77 (meet record).  But his biggest challenge was the 1600m with fresh legged veterans David Schmieg (Sr., Lane Tech) and Nick Hess (Sr., St. Thomas More) were waiting for him. The pace picked up in the second half in which Leverenz and Hess were the last two men standing.  Leverenz used his sixth gear to pull away from Schmieg on the homestretch to win in 4:17.04-4:17.86. Hess ran 4:24.43
  • Crete-Monee wins the 4x4 over Oswego East 3:27.29-3:28.43
  • Marmiona Academy takes 4x8 title in 8:12.35
  • Jonah Wiley (Sr., Bloom) wins long jump in 22-4.25
  • Malik Jenkins (Sr., Bloom Twp.) 46-10 is triple jump champ
