Zack Smith: College Signing Day, Shining Bright

It's great to be back after another week of training as the indoor track season really begins to heat up.  This past week has been very exciting for me due to national signing day this on Wednesday.  I officially signed my National Letter of Intent to the University of Illinois, and I know that I am extremely blessed to get the opportunity to attend and run for such a great university in the upcoming years.

I am eager to become a part of such a great team as well as group of guys down there.  Although I have been blessed with many great memories in my past four years at DGN, signing day definitely has moved towards the top of that list.  DGN did a great job of handling the event, and definitely made it a memorable day for my fellow signees and I.  I want to also thank my family, teammates, and coaches for being there to support me not only on signing day, but also over the course of the last four years.  They all deserve a big shoutout for everything they have done for me!  I also want to congratulate all of the other track and XC athletes that signed on Wednesday for their great accomplishments as high school athletes.  Your hard work really paid off in a big way on Wednesday!

This week also went very well from a training perspective for me personally.  It was great to get a few good workouts under my belt as our season opener draws closer.  We open up at the Little Four Invite at Hinsdale Central next Friday night where there will be plenty of competition, especially in some of the distance events.  Hinsdale Central has a great program and we are very excited to compete against them multiple times over the next couple of weeks.  They always do a great job of hosting this meet, and I'm sure that this year will be no different.  I am very excited to watch my teammates open up their season at such a great meet, and it should be very enjoyable to watch them get after it.  I know that we are ready to compete, so I'm sure that I'll be back next week with some great results!
