In Her Own Words: Shamier Little

Hey guys, it's Shamier again (*waves*). I haven't blogged in a while, but trust me, you haven't missed too mch. Since you guys last heard from me, I've had a few competitions.

I'm not sure if I talked about it or not, but if I did, I'll try to summarize. I went to Prep Top Times, which is basically our unofficial indoor state meet in Illinois. I competed in the 60 hurdles, 400, and 200. I forgot my spikes,so I had to run in my trainers for the prelims of the hurdles!  I didn't do too bad actually. It was one of my top five best times of the season. In the 400, I really thought I was doing something serious, turns out I wasn't, and everybody noticed it but me. My coach didn't even talk to me.I had to redeem myself in the 200. I crossed the line at 24.05 or something like that.  I flipped out. 24.05!? That's like, a personal best, but Dyetat crushed my soul when they told me they had made a mistake, and I actually went 25.05. I died a little, but I'm refusing to accept the fact that I went 25. I got first in all those events, and an overall second place finish in the team standings. That was just a little preview of state. I know I'm going to have to do way more, and do it way better than I did at indoor.

Next up was Arcadia. I went to California and stayed with Ariana Washington.I had a good time and got to be welcomed into the Long Beach Poly track rabbit family for that weekend. I had In N Out Burger for the first time! I loved it and I felt right at home. Anyways. Arcadia was the first outdoor meet of the season, and probably the meet with the BEST weather conditions. I knew I had to produce while I was out there. I ran the 100 hurdles, 400, and 200. I swear my first event is my worst event. I think I did terrible during the hurdles, even though I did run a pretty good time. I really want to get out of the 14's, and stay out of the 14's. My 400 was good, but nothing compared to how I did last year, I was glad about placing first, but I know I could've done better. Then there was the 200 oh my god the 200. That lane stuff really doesn't matter to me, but lane one was kind of a bummer. I got out fast, and I put up a fight for as long as I could. The time was pretty low for the beginning of the season, and I'm hoping it gets better. I really hadn't been to practice the week before Arcadia, and I think that the outcome would've been a little different if I didn't decide to slack off. My coach didn't talk to me and I understand why. After all of that I missed my flight back to Chicago. I was panicking so bad, but luckily, I was able to get another flight back to Chicago within the next few hours. My last high school meet in California was pretty good. I even got to take home a giant poster of me that they had hanging up at the entrance.

I'm not really beating myself up too much over how I've done in the past few weeks. I just know that I can't afford to miss another day of practice, and I'm going to have to work twice as hard. Especially since Penn Relays are coming up, and I'm running the 400 hurdles. Yes, track world I'm going to do it, and I'm really excited.
