The Event

Distance Night in Palatine is a unique fusion of elite distance racing, music, and fun. Too often, our best kids miss the full field racing that can lead to fast times and personal breakthroughs. Distance Night offers elite fields for boys and girls in the three distance events 800, 1600, and 3200 meters.

Each race will be capped at 32 entrants. The top 16 entries will gain placement into The Main Event. Those in the 17-32 range will race in The Undercard. We are also offering a freshmen boys 1600, an open girls 1600 for emerging runners, and a distance medley relay for both genders as part of The Undercard.

Entries are open now through Athletic.net: http://www.athletic.net/Help/Track.aspx?Meet=260031. Detailed entry instructions are available through that link. All entry questions should be addressed to Chris Quick, Palatine boys coach, at cquick@d211.org. Full entry instructions for our Special Olympians are also available now.

Entry Cost

Cost is $25 per individual athlete, $40 per distance medley relay. Entry fees will be payable upon check-in at the event. Each athlete competing will receive either a race singlet or T-shirt. Sizes will be pre-bought and given out on a first-come, first-serve basis at check-in.

Time Schedule

The Undercard will start at 7:00 pm with the following order of events:

Freshman boys 1600
Open girls 1600 (aimed at younger or emerging athletes)
Boys and girls 3200
Boys and girls 800
Boys and girls 1600
Boys and girls distance medley relays
Special Olympics 800 meters
The Main Event will start at 9:00 pm with the following order of events:

Boys 800
Girls 800
Boys 3200
Girls 3200
Boys 1600
Girls 1600
At the conclusion, we are hoping to host a non-timed co-ed costume relay. We would encourage all participants to bring a costume, make some new friends, and jump in for some fun.

Awards

Awards will be given to the winners of each event in the Undercard. The top three finishers in any Main Event race will receive an award. We will also give an award for the relay team with the best costumes.

Entry Procedure

The meet takes place under National High School Federation rules and Illinois High School Association rules. All participants must represent their high school and compete in their high school uniform. Unattached competition is not allowed.

Online registration opens on February 15, 2016 and closes on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:59 pm CST. Only athletes entered via the online process at Athletic.net will be considered for entry into the meet. No faxed or e-mailed entries will be considered.

An athlete may enter multiple events, but may only race in one. If an athlete makes the Top 32 cut in multiple events, they will be asked to declare their intended race by Monday, April 17th at noon. If no declaration is received from the athlete or coach, they will be placed in the event where they hold the highest seed. Finalized entries will be posted online on Wednesday, April 19th after 3:00 pm.

Qualifying Marks for Entry Consideration

An athlete may submit a verifiable mark run anytime between the start of the 2015 track season and Saturday, April 16, 2016. The marks listed below are the minimums needed to enter an athlete for consideration. In the Distance Medley Relay, simply enter an estimated time based on season best times of the athletes who plan to compete.

Achieving the marks below DOES NOT ensure entry. If the athlete meets the minimum standard, they then move into the consideration pool where only the Top 32 verified marks in each event will make the cut to compete. When entering your athlete, please provide the date and meet where the mark was run. Manually timed marks will be adjusted. Upon request, proof of results must be provided.

Entry Fees

Entry fee payment is to be made on meet day (at packet pickup) by cash, personal check, or school check. Checks should be made payable to Palatine High School. Athletes will not be allowed to compete unless fees have been paid. For this initial year, there is no online payment.

Online Registration

Access the meet page at http://www.athletic.net/Help/Track.aspx?Meet=260031.
Follow the online instructions to register your athlete(s). You will need to create an Athletic.net account if your team does not already possess one.
If you enter a F.A.T. time you will need to place an a after the time when entering the mark. This indicates to the server that it is an F.A.T. time, and it will not be adjusted. All hand-timed entries will be adjusted by adding 0.24.
In the Comments field, enter the date and name of the meet where the mark was run. These comments help the meet personnel to verify the legitimacy of the entered mark (if necessary).
More specific entry instructions are available at PalatineCC.net via the Distance Night tab.
Sanction Approval for Out-of-State Teams

Out-of-state and international athletes/teams must declare their intent to compete as soon as possible by entering the meet at Athletic.net. Palatine High School will forward a list of out-of-state schools (which will be updated as we draw closer to meet date) to the NFHS office to seek approval from their respective state associations to compete. Most states do grant approval, with limited exception.

If you are unsure of your states standing, please contact Chris Quick at cquick@d211.org. Once again, please declare ASAP to ensure your school is on the list and cleared to compete.

Sponsorship

We would like to thank our partners Dick Pond, New Balance, and the Special Olympics for helping us to establish this meet.

Admission

Our hope is to fill the stadium with fans. To that end, entry will be by donation only. Spectators can either donate a pair of used running shoes or make a $5 donation at the door. All monetary proceeds will go to the Special Olympics. All shoes will be donated to the More Foundation, which is dedicated to recycling old shoes to fight poverty, hunger, and global warming.

Facilities Access and Check-in

The Palatine High School track will be open beginning at 5:00 pm. There will be no locker rooms available. Packet pick-up will be at the field building in the northwest corner of the stadium. Athletes are free to use the soccer field just outside the stadium for warm-ups and team camping.
