Because the depth of quality runners in the land of Lincoln, the next group of emerging stallions moving to the forefront is sure to come. The biggest indicator of a distance runner is endurance. One distance runner who meets the criteria is rising senior Thomas Shilgalis of Naperville Central. Shilgalis enjoyed a great 2017-18 school season in which he had the pleasure of having the top 800m (1:51.81) and 1600m (4:10.70) in the state. Shilgalis also had the top three-mile mark in the state last year up until an injury sidelined his progress prior to the IHSA state series.
Maine South rising senior Tommy Brady is the top returning cross country runner in the state based on his combined 3200 and three-mile times (23:35.13). Former Neuqua Valley star Zach Kinne has moved to Pennsylvania for his senior year.
