Footlocker Finalist Grant Nykaza Selects Seminoles

Grant Nykaza is one of the top runners in the state of Illinois. He has three top four finishes at the 1A state meet and was a Foot Locker Finalist in 2011. Recently, Nykaza ended his college recruitment deciding to head to Tallahassee and run for Bob Braman and the Florida State Seminoles.

What has the recruiting process been like for you?

Since my junior year I have always been excited for the recruitment process. It was definitely an enjoyable time being able to communicate with some of the top running programs in the United States.

What schools did you visit?

Syracuse was my only other official visit, but soon as I stepped foot on Florida State, I knew it was for me.

What other factors played into you choosing the Seminoles?

Florida State is an all around great program. They have went to the NCAA nationals 9 straight years and have done very well at Nationals and also a National Champion track program. Coach Braman is a very individual coach and first and for most a wonderful guy to be around. The guy's on the team are dedicated athletes but know they have to trust in themselves and Coach Braman to do well. The first ever phone call on July 1st was by Coach Braman and one thing I remembering him saying is... "you should not have to take all 5 visits." I will be majoring in Criminology and FSU has one of the best Criminology programs in the United States.

Now that you picked FSU are you done looking at schools and will you help recruit guys to Tallahassee or are you going to leave that to the coaches?

I am DONE looking at schools! I have talked to one particular guy who they are also looking at and it's my job also to get guys for my class because they will be my future teammates!

How important is it for you to get this out of the way so you can focus on your senior year?

With choosing Florida State I can now concentrate on my final cross country season instead of leaving early from my meets to catch a plane. Now the only thing on my mind is to get a state title and qualify  for Foot Locker Nationals again in San Diego. Go Noles!!!!!!!
