May 18, 2011--
The North Central College women's track & field team jumped up four spots in Wednesday's installment of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Team Computer Rankings, climbing to 17th.

The computer rankings are new for the 2011 season. Mathematical formulae based on current national descending-order lists in all events are used to compile a team's ranking. The purpose of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The Cardinals, the 2011 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin champions during both the indoor and outdoor season, amassed 53.76 points in the week seven rankings, jumping from 21st to 17th. Conference nemesis Carthage College is 12th with 69.60 points while Illinois Wesleyan University is 24th with 39.96 points, dropping four spots from last week.

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh maintains its top ranking, the indoor national champions secured 233.80 points in the rankings while Wartburg College (Iowa) sits in the No. 2 position with 179.92 points. Massachusetts Institute of Technology rounds out the top three with 160.83 points.

North Central notched seven provisional qualifiers at last week's Dr. Keeler Invitational inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Cardinal athletes remain in Naperville this week, competing at the Gregory Invitational on Thursday and Friday in what is the team's final meet before the NCAA Division III National Championships.
