BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's track team finished second in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin indoor championships, held Feb. 25-26 at IWU's Shirk Center. Junior Lauren Alpert was the "Women's Track Athlete of the Meet" as she got three individual first place finishes.

The Titans, who had won the previous three indoor championships, accumulated 135 points, behind champion North Central with 252.

Alpert, who shared the award with Carthage's Mindy Harrington, got first place in the 200, long jump triple jump and on the 4x400 relay in the meet. She placed first in the 200 with a Shirk Center record time of 25.28 seconds and Shavantay Thomas got second at 25.31, also a Shirk Center record.
Alpert also got first place in the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet-9 ¼ inches, an NCAA provisional qualifying standard.
She was second in the 400 with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 57.03 seconds.
Thomas was fourth in the 400 at 57.92 seconds and Jessica Christy was fifth in the 400 with her time of 58.58 seconds, both D-III provisional qualifying times.
The Titans had three of the top five times in the 800, led by sophomore Tara Clemens in second with a provisional time of 2:14.66. Sophomore Lauren Rock was fourth at 2:16.57 and freshman Mallory Kirby was fifth with her time of 2:17.43.
Alpert, Rock, Clemens and Christy teamed to finish first in the 4x400 relay with a provisional qualifying time of 3:54.29.
Senior Lorin Biosca was third in the mile run with a time of 5:12.51 while junior Gaby Johnson captured third place in the high jump, achieving a height of 5 feet-2 ½ inches.
Caitlin Eskew was sixth in the 55 meter dash (7.50 seconds) and eighth in the 200 (26.3 seconds).
Senior Kyla Motz was sixth in the shot put with her toss of 39 feet-3 inches.

In Friday's action, Alpert won the long jump with a conference record distance of 18 feet-6 ½ inches (5.65 meters), topping the old CCIW mark of 5.53 meters set in 2006 by IWU's Melissa Harden.
IWU women got first in the distance medley relay with a conference record time of 12:20.58, eclipsing the mark set in 2006 by North Central (12:25.33). The team consisted of Clemens, Kirby, Rock and junior Jessica Christy.
Bisoca got third in the 5000 with a time of 18:23.68.
Motz earned a third place finish in the weight throw with an NCAA Division III provisional distance of 51 feet-5 ¾ inches.

The women's field athlete of the meet was Amanda Laesch of North Central and the Cardinals' coaching staff earned the top coaching honors for indoor track.
