IWU's West Named CCIW Track & Field "Athlete of Week"

Illinois Wesleyan senior Darien West was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) men's indoor field "Athlete of the Week" on Tuesday, January 18.

West (Chicago, Ill., De La Salle Institute) had a first place finish in the weight throw at the Terre Haute Double Dual against Division I schools Illinois State and Indiana State on Saturday, January 15.

He hit an NCAA provisional mark and school record throw of 60 feet-11 1/2 inches, which is currently ranked fourth on the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS).

A business major at Illinois Wesleyan, West is the son of Euamarie Novey and Standly West.

Forn their performances in meets last weekend, Augustana senior Hannah Hottle and Carthage senior Mindy Harrington were the CCIW women's indoor track and field "Athletes of the Week", respectively, while North Park freshman Gabe Nash was chosen as the indoor track "Athlete of the Week."
Hottle finished second in the 600-meter dash at the University of Dubuque Sol Butler Classic, achieving a time of 1:40.16.
Harrington won the shot put at Carthage's own Private College Invitational. Her throw of 43-10 (13.36 meters) set a new Lady Reds' indoor shot put record previously held by Mary Beth Hulina in 2000.
Nash finished third in the 55-meter dash (6.71) and second in the 200-meter dash (23.44) during Carthage's Private College Invitational. He also ran a personal record time of 6.70 to win his heat of the 55-meter dash preliminaries.
