NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan senior Darien West set a school record in the weight throw at the Illinois State Early Bird Open, held at Horton Fieldhouse on Saturday, Dec. 4.

West's throw of 59 feet-9 inches for first place in the event is not only an Illinois Wesleyan school record, but also an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark for the 2011 indoor season.

West, who was a 2009 indoor NCAA Division III All-American in the weight throw, broke his own school record of 57 feet, 3 1/2 inches set last season.

In addition to West, two Titan men finished eighth and ninth in the pole vault. Alex Lambert had a height of 14 feet- 5 1/2 inches to place eighth and Steve Lessaris cleared 13 feet-11 1/4 inches to be ninth.
