Busy Weekend Ahead for Illinois Wesleyan Teams

A busy Saturday, November 13, looms for Illinois Wesleyan athletic teams with women's soccer and the cross country teams participating in NCAA Division III competition, the football team closing out its regular season and swimming hosting Carthage.

The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team was the conference's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III tournament and will face Washington & Jefferson at 10 a.m. (Central time) in the first round in Granville, Ohio on Saturday, November 13.
The Titans, with a record of 16-1-3, play the Presidents (14-5-1) at Barclay-Thomsen Field on the campus of Denison University, the host school who will play Penn State-Altoona in the other first round match, which gets underway 30 minutes after the conclusion of the early match.
The winners of the two first-round matches will meet at 12 p.m. (Central) on Sunday, November 14.

The Illinois Wesleyan football Titans (7-2, 4-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) continue their 65th season of CCIW play with a game at Augustana (5-4, 3-3 CCIW) at 1 p.m. at Ericson Field in Rock Island, Ill. With a win, this team would accomplish a feat never before done at IWU - back-to-back seasons with eight wins or more. Illinois Wesleyan was 10-2 last season and would be 8-2 this year. The Vikings, meanwhile, are looking for their first home win of the season, having won all five games on the road.

Illinois Wesleyan teams will be competing in the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill. The Titan women's team is No. 9 in the latest Midwest regional rankings after finishing second in the CCIW meet. The US Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association ranks 35 teams in the national poll and six of the top 32 squads in the nation will be running in the Midwest Regional, including No. 5 Washington U. and No. 6 Chicago.
On the men's side, eight of the top 25 spots in the latest NCAA Division III national poll are occupied by teams that will run in the Midwest Region. Nine of the teams ranked in the USTFCCCA top 35 national poll will be in the men's Midwest Regional field, including No. 1-ranked North Central.
The top two teams in the Midwest Regional will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III national meet, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Waverly, Iowa while the next three teams can earn at-large berths.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
The dual meet against Carthage will be at 1 p.m. at IWU's Fort Natatorium. This is the first action for IWU since a dual meet against Rose-Hulman on Oct. 30. The women were winners, 226-59, while the men's team lost, 176.5 to 109.5. Results will be posted on the IWU athletics web page.
