Matthew Jordan Smashes CSU 8K Record at Great West Meet

Matthew Jordan broke the CSU 8K school record at the Great West Championships with a time of 25:09.40

CHICAGO – Sophomore Matthew Jordan (Suffield, OH/Field) (Mogadore, Ohio) eclipsed the Chicago State eight kilometer school record for the second time this season on Oct. 30 at the third-annual Great West Conference Cross Country Championships at Los Lagos Golf Course in Edinburg, Texas. The Cougars finished eighth as a team in the meet that was hosted by the University of Texas-Pan American.

"Matt made huge strides this season, not only for himself, but for the future of the program,” assistant coach Steve Powenski said. “Matt accomplished, by his hard work and growing confidence in himself, not only improvement in his personal time from last year of over two minutes, but the respect of his peers in the Great West Conference"

Jordan smashed his previous school 8K record and career-best time of 25:55 by crossing the finish line in 24th place with a mark of 25:09.40. It is the second consecutive meet that the second-year harrier has ran a sub-26 minute race in as many weeks.

Also setting new PR marks in the meet were senior Daniel Fleming (South Holland, IL/Thornwood HS) (South Holland, Ill.) and junior Uri Kuyoro (Harvey, Ill.). Fleming produced a time of 33:42.72, while Kuyoro finished the race with a time of 34:10.54.

“I am extremely proud of how my guys have brought into our system.  The personal records that they have achieved throughout the season are a testament to their courage and determination to reach their goals,” said CSU head coach Wayne Holloway.
