ELMHURST, Ill. (Sept. 3, 2010)-- Competing in its first meet since winning the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship, the North Central College men's cross country squad was in mid-season form, attaining a perfect score after claiming the first six finishers at Friday evening's Elmhurst College Early Bird Invitational.

North Central's 15 points outpaced the University of Chicago by a 53-point margin as the Maroons finished with a team score of 68. The University of Saint Francis (Ill.) was third with a score of 72 while the North Central freshman squad placed fourth among the 17-team field with a team score of 117. The host Bluejays were the only other College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin team at the meet, placing sixth with 211 points.

Mike Spain shattered his own course record, attaining top individual honors after finishing the 6,000-meter race at Eldridge Park in 18:56, a five-second improvement over his previous course record set last season. Nathan Warstler placed second in 19:28 with Tim Hird finishing close behind in third in 19:31. Neil Klein (19:34), Matthew Perez (19:36) and Yonatan Mascote (19:37) all finished within four seconds of each other in fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively.
