Titan Relay Team Honored by Conference

Illinois Wesleyan's 4x100-meter relay team, who won their event in the College Division of the Drake Relays April 24, was honored as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin "Women's Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week" on Wednesday, April 28.

The IWU team, had a time of 46.59 seconds and was comprised of senior Ali McCoy (Irving, Texas), sophomore Shavantay Thomas (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods HS), sophomore Lauren Alpert (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South HS) and senior Amanda LaRocca (Palatine, Ill./HS).

North Park junior Sarah Hansen was named CCIW Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. Hansen recorded five personal records and two season bests while placing fifth in her first-ever heptathlon competition at the Hillsdale (Mich.) Relays last weekend. Her final score of 4,028 points ranks her as the No. 3 heptathlon performer in North Park history, and is 62 points from the national provisional qualifying standard.

In addition, North Central's 4x400-meter relay team, along with Carthage's Buzzy Brown, were named CCIW Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

The North Central men's 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Jon Caron, Jon Howard, Dayton Henriksen, and Dan Benton, finished fifth in the College Division of the Drake Relays over the weekend, clocking an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 3:12.30.

Brown, a senior from Naperville, Ill., and Neuqua Valley High School, finished eighth in the long jump at the Drake Relays, jumping an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 23-2 (7.06 meters).
